Yesterday, The Recording Academy announced the nominees for the 58th annual Grammys. AudioSalad is proud to congratulate clients on nominations in several award categories. Courtney Barnett of Marathon Artists earned a nomination for Best New Artist, fresh off the release of her full-length Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit. Jack Ü, the wildly popular EDM duo from Mad Decent, has been nominated for both Best Dance Track and Best Dance/Electronic Album.
The award ceremony will take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 15, 2016. Today, December 4th, marks exactly eight years since the death of legendary rapper Pimp C. His life and influence on hip-hop are honored by Long Live The Pimp, his first full length since Still Pimping was released posthumously in 2011. Celia Cruz, the “Queen of Salsa”, transformed salsa music over her nearly half-century-long career. Adored worldwide for her beautiful singing voice and eccentric style, Cruz amassed an enormous following. More than a decade after her death, her life and music continues to be celebrated.
Just over a month ago, Telemundo premiered Celia, an 80-episode telenovela documenting Cruz’s life. Celia chronicles the singer’s 1925 birth in Havana all the way to her death in New York in 2003. Jeimy Osorio and Aymee Nuviola power the telenovela with their dramatic performances as Cruz during her early and later stages of life. Dozens of classic songs from the Fania Records catalog are featured, all re-recorded for the telenovela.
Bill Ryder-Jones released his new album today, titled West Kirby County Primary. This comes as the follow-up to his debut Domino Recording Co. release, A Bad Wind Blows in My Heart. The album’s name gets its title from his hometown, West Kirby, where the music was recorded. Throughout the album’s ten tracks, Ryder-Jones showcases his trademark electric guitar and vocals, also performing various other instruments.
West Kirby County Primary is currently available for listening through all major streaming outlets. Physical copies can also be purchased via Domino Recording Co. in the form of CD and vinyl. Fresh off the release of his mixtape Hate Me Now, Harlem-raised rapper Dave East has just dropped a music video for his single, “KD”. The track comes as a celebration of the triumphant return of Kevin Durant, the basketball player for which the song is named. The music video shows Dave East surrounding by throngs of his friends and fans, paying homage to his roots in New York City.
Hate Me Now was released by Mass Appeal Records on October 2nd, and is currently available for streaming on SoundCloud. The mixtape is presented by DJ Drama and features guest appearances from multiple renowned artists including Nas, Pusha T, and Jadakiss.
Blood Orange – aka Devonté Hynes – has just released a brand new song, titled “Sandra’s Smile”. The song comes courtesy of Domino Recording Co., the label responsible for putting out Blood Orange’s 2013 album, Cupid Deluxe. “Sandra’s Smile” is accompanied by a music video directed and edited by Hynes himself. He will be performing at the legendary Apollo Theater in New York City on December 12th, with all proceeds benefiting Opus 118 Harlem School of Music.
