Posted on Aug 6, 2014

Daptone Records, today’s foremost label for Funk, Soul, and Gospel, have released yet another astounding album of music guaranteed to sooth your modern day blues in Naomi Shelton and the Gospel Queens’ Cold World. Making the rounds in various New York City nightclubs throughout the ’90s and early 2000s, Shleton was eventually discovered by Daptone Records founder Gabe Roth. In Cold World, the follow-up to her 2009 debut, What Have You Done My Brother, the Queen of Gospel delivers a 12-track compilation that continues to showcase her vintage soul and gospel sound.

On Cold World‘s aptly titled “I Earned Mine,” she tells us she’s been working a long, long time, and with deep conviction proclaims, “If anyone ever earned anything, I believe I earned mine.” She may not have written those words, but the sentiment is certainly self-evident to all those around her.

Cold World is available now on CD, vinyl, and as a digital format.
